Project 365: Day6 : Grammy's Home

Project 365: Day6 : Grammy's Home

If you can read this, you probably can see. If you can see, you've probably seen hundreds of houses in your lifetime, maybe thousands, and for you air travellers perhaps millions. I've seen my share of houses, old houses with ivy clinging to the bricks as though the lifeless blocks could offer nutrients, new houses with steel door handles and cold carpetless floors, Polish cottages with red tile roofs, and imposing black gates at the driveway.
I cannot say, however, I've seen many homes. I might also argue though that a home cannot be seen, it must be felt, experienced.
On Cherry Lane in Cabot, Arkansas, there is a home. A warm cozy home with a brick fireplace and happy yellow walls. The dining room table sits behind the couch, tying the area to "eat, drink, and be merry" beautifully to the area to relax over good conversation or good-natured debate. The bookshelves are stacked with old Bibles and and lovely history books alongside German trinkets and family pictures. But as much as the home creates it's own cozy air simply being what it is, the true nature of love, peace, and contentment in Grammy and Grandad's home can only be understood in the presence of people.
Every Sunday after the service at Bible Church of Cabot, a gathering of a family who truely loves each other takes place. Bonds of sisters, brothers, spouses, mothers, fathers, cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends bring a joy that so much of society is missing out on.

Royal Diner

Royal Diner

The Chelsea Royal Diner has something for everyone, all the time. Open every day of the year, and serving breakfast all day long, it is a place to come for an omelet and hash browns in the morning and meat loaf at supper … or a Cajun skillet breakfast and Teriyaki chicken salad lunch. A full fountain offers real milk shakes, sundaes, floats, and splits as well as homemade root beer and black cherry soda. Chelsea Royal fans pack the place starting at dawn, when the air is thick with the smells of coffee, pancakes, and frying bacon. Corned beef hash, made here, is a special favorite; and pancakes are available with real Vermont syrup (for $1.25 extra).

In addition to diner classics, the kitchen specializes in Mexican food Tuesday through Saturday (including margaritas and Mexican beers), and prime rib with excellent mashed potatoes on weekend nights. April through October, an ice cream stand offers soft-serve and hard-pack as well as burgers and foot-long hot dogs.

Part of the diner is beautiful: a 1938-vintage Worcester dining car with curved roof, tile floor, and old high-back booths. To this piece of roadside Americana has been added a much larger dining area that is a sprawling hodgepodge of tables. While interior details of the old diner are intact and lovely to look at, the best view is of the old enamel exterior
